Tsavo National Parks (East and West)
Tsavo East and Tsavo West are two of Kenya’s largest and oldest national parks, often visited together for their diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife. Tsavo East is famous for its vast open plains and large herds of red-dust-coated elephants, a result of the region’s rich, iron-red soil. Visitors can also spot lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and zebras, as well as the Galana River, which supports crocodiles and hippos. The park’s striking Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow, adds to its dramatic scenery.
Tsavo West is more mountainous and lush than its eastern counterpart, with rolling hills, dense bush, and picturesque water sources like Mzima Springs, where hippos and crocodiles are easily viewed in crystal-clear pools. Wildlife here includes rhinos, leopards, and a variety of bird species. Tsavo’s vast wilderness offers a remote and untamed safari experience, perfect for visitors looking for adventure and solitude in nature.
